Papers of the Davis family [manuscript], 1852-1936.

Letters, documents and printed matter relate to the Petersburg Female College and its successors the Southern Female College and the Southern College (Junior) and its founders Williams T. Davis and Arthur Kyle Davis and their families. Topics include news of family and friends, female education, travel and A. K. Davis, Jr.'s schooling at the Tome School for Boys and Balliol College, Oxford. Topics touched on briefly include race relations, suicide, grief and religion, pioneer life in British Columbia and Washington, and farming and crops. John Cowper Granberry, Ruth Draper, Robert K. Bishop, Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Granberry, a native of Norfolk, Va., was an itinerant preacher and a chaplain at the University of Virginia in 1861.
